Brecon Motor Club Motor Show

January 23rd 2027

We again look forward to our annual in-door car show at the Market Hall, Brecon.

The theme for 2027 will be CLASSIC and PRESTIGIOUS cars.

It takes me back to the earliest memories of the 1970 BMC show when they had a first generation Range -Rover and the classic GT40 on display – great memories. For a young lad growing up in Brecon, a sight I would never have seen otherwise.

To make it a true family occasion we aim to have a remote controlled car track on the stage to see if children can beat the adults!!

And of course we will have the delicious smell of bacon baps and coffee brewing.

Black Mountains Classic Car Tour

13th September 2026

Due to Military Manoeuvres, we were unable to run on our original date, writes Dave Mac and thanks to Rob Baldwin, HRCR Scenic Tours Secretary we are still a round of their series.

The Committee agreed that I could be Routemeister for one last time and along with other Club Members with much more technical expertise than me the Tour is Go.

This Year the route will be heading north from Llangors with a comfort stop at Builth Wells and a lunch halt near Newtown before heading south to the finish at The Old Railway Line Garden Centre at Three Cocks. The Entry fee will include a bacon bap and tea or coffee at the start, tea or coffee and biscuits at Builth Wells and tea or coffee and cakes at the lunch halt with a two-course meal at the finish.

Old Forge Garage Gremlin Historic Road Rally

15th August 2026

Brecon Motor Club will once again organise the 2026 Old Forge Garage Gremlin Historic Rally on the later date of Saturday August 15th.

The event is open to crews with Motorsport UK Interclub licences and the Clubman’s class is open to crews with a Motorsport UK Clubman’s licence. The event is a round of the HRCR Clubman’s Road Rally Championship. We were very honoured to receive the award for the best event in the 2025 championship and will be striving to organise an event of that standard once again. Our thanks go to Tim and Brian Dennis of Old Forge Garage for what must be one of the longest enduring sponsorship partnerships in rallying.

For 2026 we have reverted to a one-day format and we plan to carry out scrutiny and documentation on the Friday evening in the market town of Talgarth with a trailer park nearby which will also be in close proximity to the finish at the Old Railway Garden Centre in Three Cocks.

On the day of the rally, we plan to start the event near Brecon with a bacon butty and a cup of tea or coffee to prepare competitors for the day ahead. A mixture of tests and regularities will follow with plotting being kept at a sympathetic level! The roads we plan to use will be a mix of new and old with the traditional visits to the traffic free roads of the Epynt ranges. Lunch with a view is planned and a curry will be on offer at the garden centre on return. We hope that you can come and join us, it should be a great day out.

Fairfield Motor Co. Epynt Hillclimbs

13th & 14th June, 2026

BRECON MOTOR CLUB welcomes entries to the friendliest speed event in the UK. The track used is the steepest in mainline UK and offers a great challenge to all that attempt the hill.

Since launching the event in 2007 the club has built up the loyal support of many competitors who have entered the event in most years. The event attracts a wide range of machinery, but the beauty of the course is that any type of car can be entered, from an everyday transport through to sophisticated specials. Our main sponsor, John Morgan, competes and brings along some highly competitive cars each year. The regulations are now available and entry application will open at 7pm on Friday 1st May 2026.

Black Mountains Classic Tour

31st August, 2025

In 2015, club officers Chris Phillips and Martin Leonard embarked on adding another event to the calendar of Brecon MC.

The club already promoted a stage rally, road rally, hill climb and classic show alongside the popular navigational scatter series so the thought was to try something a bit different and slightly less stressful.

The objective was to entice members and others who owned classic non- competition cars to get them out of the garage and enjoy the wonderful Black Mountains area of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The Historic Rally Car Register were already engaged in a Tour Series nationally and after a successful application the Black Mountains Tour formed a part of their series and it’s proved a successful liaison ever since. The more recent tours attracting more HRCR members than any others in the series.

The route planning has always been the more straightforward element being blessed with some of best drivers’ roads in the country but the difficulty is finding venues that can cater for 60 cars and 120 people who need to be well feed and watered during the course of the day - something that’s been achieved well over the years.

In general, the Black Mountains Tour commences at a breakfast venue with a driver briefing followed by three sections each approximately 40 miles in length interspersed with refreshment halts and culminating with a final meal for all finishers and a small souvenir of the event.

Entrants are issued with a tulip style road book and a rally plate and start at one-minute intervals in age related order. Whilst we like to see vehicles that were registered before 1991 other more modern classics are certainly very welcome at the organiser’s discretion.

So come on, get those classics out from the garage and give them a run alongside

like-minded people!

Brecon Motor Club Motor Show

January 24th 2026

In 1968 BMC held a Motor Show in the Market Hall, Brecon, present was Bill Bengry’s Mark 2 Cortina before it competed in the London to Sydney Marathon, along with Fords version of a Ferrari – the Ford GT40 – so named because it was only 40 inches high and Local rally stars with their Mini Coopers.

In 2024 Malcolm Rich found an archived press release posted in the local Brecon & Radnor Express dated 1921 of the club organising a Hill Climb up the Warren Road for Motor Cycles and a few cars. The Club is now recognised by MSUK as being over 100 years old and one of the oldest in UK.

This gave birth to and the theme for another Car Show held on the 25th January 2025 - the first since 1968 to be held in the Market Hall. Bill Bengry’s Mark 2 Cortina was again present along with one of the Mini Coopers.

The 100 years of Motorsport was so successful it has been decided to make it an annual event.

Old Forge Garage Gremlin Historic Road Rally

10th & 11th May, 2025

Brecon Motor Club will organise and promote the Gremlin Historic Road Rally. An Interclub Status Historic Road Rally held on May 11th & 12th 2025. The Interclub event will be a round of the 2025 Motorsport News HRCR Clubman’s Road Rally Championship. There will also be a Clubman’s rally.

Welcome to the Fourth running of the Old Forge Garage Gremlin Historic Rally, last year we learnt a lot of lessons and hopefully we will once again be able to provide you with a good enjoyable challenge. Brian and Tim Dennis of Old Forge Garage are once againgenerously sponsoring the rally, a relationship that started way back in the mid 1970s and has endured to this day. We plan to run approximately 110 miles of regularity and 10 special tests which will be largely different to last year as we seek to offer variety. These will comprise of gravel, tar and grass. This year the rally will start on the Saturday evening with a test and regularity planned to ease you into the event! Supper will also be provided, so no rushing around looking for somewhere to eat. The route will be a test of crew and car and there will be some slightly rough roads so a sump guard is highly recommended. The event is a round of the 2025 HRCR Clubman’s Road Rally Championship and as such it is expected that demand for entries will be high. It is a busy weekend in the locality and accommodation will be at a premium, it would be wise to book early.

There will also be a Clubman’s rally run alongside the main event covering the same route but entirely on a tulip road book. The event will start at different locations on Saturday and Sunday and finish at the Old Railway Garden Centre in Three Cocks for the now traditional carvery. The trailer park will be just across the road. We look forward to seeing you on the day and plan to supply you with a good fun but challenging day.

In 2007 Martin Leonard and Stuart Cardell started the first Epynt Hillclimb supported at the time by Dennis Motorsport.

The track used is the steepest in mainland United Kingdom and offers a great challenge to all that attempt it. The event has always been popular and attracts a wide range of machinery and drivers. The beauty of the hillclimb is that you can use virtually any car, from your road going every day transport through to highly modified specials. The event is now supported by the Fairfield Motor Company and enthusiastic proprietor, John Morgan, brings a pair of cars to compete in each year.
