  • Robin Hood, Safari & Caerwent

    Sunday, 25 March 2007

Just a quick update on events a couple of weeks ago, Martin Jones went to the Robin Hood Stages with Simon Hawthorn in their classic class Escort but suffered mechanical failure while on a different continent Alastair Cavenagh broke a driveshaft on his Mitsubishi on the Safari Rally in Kenya.

On the Tour of Caerwent Chris Phillips co-drove for Bernard Charles in his hybrid Escort and took a good 6th overall and 4th in class. This was yet another finish for the duo who I believe are chasing Welsh Championship points.

    Gremlin & Tour of Epynt

    Sunday, 4 March 2007

Brecon Motor Clubs big night event of the year, the Old Forge Garage Gremlin Rally, went off without a hitch at the weekend with Denis & James putting on another epic route which took in Abergwesyn and the Elan Valley. Glyn Price and Iwan Jones took a good win in their Escort but BMC stars of the night were Dai 'Block' Jones and Glyn Price who overcame their Bro Caron problems to bring their Pug home in an excellent 4th overall. Elsewhere Phil Jones and Craig also put in a stunning performance to bring their 1 litre Nissan Micra home 18th overall and 1st novice. Mike Jones and Robin 'Crikey' Moses were a safe 24th with Alwyn Arrowsmith and Dale Bowen 32nd in the lovely Escort. Wayne Palmer and Garth Ralph used a Vauxhall Frontera and managed to get it to the finish in 37th. Will Arrowsmith and Matthew Farr investigated the scenery, liked it and didn't bother to finish whilst John Williams & Josh Jones simply went missing.

The Tour of Epynt was shaping up to be a memorable event but unfortunately it looks set to be remembered for the wrong reasons. Martin Jones was competing with Bob Fowden in his Subaru for the first time and was set for 7th place after a time penalty dropped them from 2nd overall. All this became academic as a row about fuel samples ensued and a number of competitors were excluded including Fowden. See MSN this week for updates!

Chris Phillips was also out albeit on four wheels for a change and they finished 25th overall in what were terrible weather conditions, rain and high winds making driving difficult.

    Bro Caron

    Saturday, 3 March 2007

Last weekend Mike Jones & Robin Moses launched their assault on the 2007 Welsh Road Rally Championship with an attempt at the Rali Bro Caron. The Peugeot held up well as did Robin's navigation and the pair were pleased to come home in 33rd place in what was a competetive field. The other BMC crew was Dai 'Block' Jones & Glyn Price who succumbed to mechanical failure in their recently uprated to 1900cc power Peugeot.
