    Y2K5 News
    11/12/2005 19:35

FOG!!! That was what greeted competitors when they came back onto Epynt for the second time on Saturday night. Clwb Modur Cymru had laid on a hard nights competition for everyone and that included the finishers and non finishers!

Best of the BMC crews once again were Martin Leonard with Ecurie Cymraegs Kevin Chaffey on the maps. The Golf performed faultlessly once again and second overall just one second behind the winners was the result. Dai Block and Glyn Price had a few problems but did well to get a top ten finish in ninth place.

Of the other crews, there were only two other finisher, Mike Jones and Kevin Tweedy finished fifth novice crew in their Pug after leading the class at petrol. This was Kevin’s final appearance as a navigator and we wish him well with his projects next year! Alwyn and Will Arrowsmith collected a shed full of penalties but were there at the finish.

Chris Shapland and Wayne Arrowsmith were suffering from a rattling engine before the start and failed to make breakfast. Peter Chappelle and Zoe Brute had worked hard to get their Fiesta in shape for this event but were thwarted by the exhaust bending the steering rack! John Williams and Phillip Jones didn't appear at the finish and Craig and Josh Jones were last seen on the end of a tow rope!

Mark Hatton and Robin Moses had been going well but the fog had the better of them and they elected to retire before any lasting damage was done.

    Holrus 2005
    21/11/2005 18:36

Brecon Motor Club member Martin Leonard accompanied by Kevin Chaffey shone on last Saturday evenings Holrus Rally organised by Newtown Motor Club and held on the Epynt Ranges. Using their vast local knowledge to the full they finished over five minutes ahead of their nearest rivals in the usual red Golf GTi. Three Epynt Motor Club crews took the next three places with past winner Gerwyn Jones in third place after experiencing electrical problems.

Dai 'Block' Jones & Glyn Price were led astray at Mike Morgan’s 50th birthday party the night before the rally and paid a heavy price, brain power being well reduced leading to a heavy accumulation of penalties, the Peugeot crew were looking good for a top ten finish as well. Mike Jones & Robin Moses were also looking good but were dropped from the top twenty after a timing error. Next event for everyone the Y2K5.

Somerset Stages & Malky Rally News
    30/10/2005 18:40

A few crews out & about again at the weekend, Stuart Cardell co-piloting Bob 'the builder' Gibbons to first in their class and fourth in the post historic category on the Somerset Stages.

Meanwhile down in deepest Blackwood Dai 'Block' Jones and Glyn 'can't understand where I went wrong' Price put the demons of last weekend well behind them and finished tenth overall in the Pug. James & Peter Chappelle were hoping for a good run in the Mini after James' Harvest Rally success but were thwarted by the weather conditions, the single wiper not coping with the foul conditions. They retired at petrol in Bronllys.

Bulldog, Pacemaker & Otterburn News 2005
    24/10/2005 17:27

Another busy weekend for BMC crews with Martin Jones sitting with Simon Hawthorn on the Bulldog Clubmans Rally and finishing a fine fifth overall and second in class using their Vauxhall engined Escort Mk2.

On Saturday night two crews ventured to Knighton Motor Clubs Radnor Pacemaker Rally. Dai 'Block' Jones and Glyn Price had a nightmare making a navigational error right at the start and then being T boned by another competitor after a wrong slot. They didn't finish, but despite a puncture and severe vibration in their Peugeot 205 GTi Mike Jones and Robin Moses persevered to the end and scored some Welsh Championship points for Mike.

Meanwhile up north in Otterburn club members John Bogie & Davie Paterson were lighting up the asphalt winning the Cheviot stages in their Metro 6R4 and following last weekends 10th place on Jersey John Williams did it again and finishing a close second in class!

    Harvest & Jersey Rallies
    16/10/2005 18:23

A good weekend for local crews as John Williams continues to impress and improve in his recently acquired Honda Civic, finishing 10th overall and first in his class on the Jersey Rally where many other more experienced crews fell by the wayside. Good luck to him at Otterburn next weekend.

Meanwhile down in Devon James Chappelle had an excellent result in his trusty Mini, taking fifth overall on the Harvest Rally! With the experienced Tony Brooks in the passenger seat this was a very impressive result.

    Peter Lloyd Stages 05
    11/10/2005 22:25

Two Brecon crews made the trip to Pembrey at the weekend and both finished. Jonathon Llewellyn Williams and daughter Sara finished second behind the WRC Subaru of Peter Lloyd using a Group N+ version. Jimmy Dark had been expected to challenge in his Mitsubishi EVO8 but couldn't stay with the airfield expert and then failed to start the final run when the gear stick broke.

Jonathon Vamplew aired his budget Subaru Station wagon and must have been pleased to finish in 13th place overall, losing 12th by just one second. Not bad for a virtually standard car.

    Tour of Epynt
    03/10/2005 18:30

A slippery Tour saw Eian Pritchard & Martin Jones adopt a cautious approach in the North Road Impreza and fourth overall was the result. Mel Evans took a convincing win from Tony Davies with evergreen John Price in third.

John Williams wound his Honda Civic up early on to lead the 1600cc class but a broken rear shocker and no spare meant a slower day and a drop down the field.

    Park Systems Failure For Jones
    12/09/2005 20:00

Martin Jones once again accompanied Simon Hawthorn in his 16 valve Escort in a bid to collect points for their assault on the ANCRO Clubmans Championship. The long haul to Scotland however proved to be fruitless as the duo broke a track control arm on the second special stage.

    Late Mewla & Other News
    06/09/2005 19:02

Sorry, been sunning myself abroad so the news page suffered!!

Firstly, congratulations to Eian Pritchard & Martin Jones on their first Mewla Rally win. By all accounts they were switched on from stage one and crushed the opposition! Well done.

Congratulations also to Jonathon Vamplew who bought his budget Subaru into 23rd place and first in class despite attempting to demolish a stretch of fencing!

James Chappelle managed to haul the Peugeot to a finish and Cwmdu resident John Williams finished 21st overall and third in the 1600cc class using his Honda Civic.

Robin Moses attempted the Targa Rusticana with Steve Hindmarsh and after a nightmarish time with the navigation the dynamic duo crashed into a low wall at the Showground in Builth Wells 50 metres short of the finish, just dragging the Mini over the finish line! Time for a winter rebuild............

On the same weekend Mike Jones & Kevin Tweedy attempted the Twilight Rally and despite a few difficulties managed to get their Peugeot 205 GTi to the end. Dai Block and Glyn Price were originally on the entry list but the lure of beer at Sennybridge Show was reportedly the reason for a non start.

    Harry Flatters 2005 News
    08/08/2005 07:32

A fantastic day on the Ranges, firstly a huge THANKYOU to James for a sterling effort this year, Bob for recruiting a great army of marshals, Chris, Mike, Robin, Pete, Zoe, Chris Phillips & son, Nigel, Kevin and anyone I've missed out for making it work so well! Not forgetting Den, Graham, Mark, Stuart etc. etc.

As for the competitors, it was lovely to see new winners on the Harry Flatters and Tony Davies and Patrick Walsh really earned this one in their 6R4. The only problem was they beat a BMC crew, Eian Pritchard & Martin Jones surviving a massive spin on stage 5 to finish just 6 seconds behind the winners. Peter Lloyd was next having suffered ECU problems in the afternoon with BMC members John Bogie & Davie Patterson 4th in the older less powerful Metro. The top five rounded off by a returning Chris Griffiths in the ex Cole Darrian T90 GTR.

Other BMC interest centred around Jonathon Vamplew with Ystrdgynlais co driver Dylan Jenkins who put in a very respectable performance in a relatively standard Subaru to finish 19th overall.

Brian Dennis was unable to get the Citroen C2 back in time to debut it and bought his hill climb Mini out taking a fine second in the 1400cc class! Looks like Brian is on the up, his smile at the finish telling the whole story.............

Once again thanks to everyone from the club and all other marshals and officials.

    Swansea Bay
    24/07/2005 10:46

BMC member Martin Jones accompanied Simon Hawthorn in his Escort at the weekend for the Swansea Bay Clubmans Rally and ground out fifth place despite being badly hampered by dust on the final stage which possibly lost them third place.

One mistake not made by them was going into the lake on stage one, Tyle, as Marcus Dodd did in his Hyundai WRC, the moment captured by club photographer GriffinRally.

    Williams' at Azimghur
    17/07/2005 11:16

Jonathon Williams took his teenage daughter Sara for a spin around Colerne at the weekend on the Bath Motor Club organised Azimghur Stages Rally and despite taking things cautiously on their first outing together they finished in tenth place on a very hot day at the ultra fast venue. With a new differential and gearbox casing fitted after a last stage failure on the Carnival Stages, the Subaru didn't miss a beat all day.

    Mel Harries Memorial Rally
    03/07/2005 21:44

Two BMC crews were lucky enough to get a run on the hugely over subscribed Mel Harries Memorial Rally at the weekend organised by Ammanford MC.

Martin Leonard and Kevin Chaffey took the Golf out once again and started carefully in the slippery conditions and looked set to reap the rewards until a puncture on the last section dropped them from third overall to eleventh.

Wayne Arrowsmith and Chris Shapland campaigned the familiar Fiesta but are not thought to have finished. More news if we get it..........

    News & Late News
    13/06/2005 21:26

Sorry for the lack of news updates just lately, the website has been going through a change of server and hasn't been accessible for a while.

Most recent news is Jonathon & Heulwen Williams getting a great sixth place on the Carnival Stages at Abingdon, this despite blowing the front diff on the final stage. Relative newcomer Jonathon Lamplew took his Subaru Impreza estate to a fantastic 18th overall, it must have been the thought of Jonathon starting stages behind him!!

The weekend before, Martin Jones guided Simon Hawthorn in his Mark 2 Escort to 4th overall in the Mutiny Clubmans Rally and were left rueing what could have been after a slow start in Radnor.

Last month four crews from BMC tackled the Eagle road rally and amazingly all made it to the finish! Martin Leonard and Phil Jones bought the Golf into 13th place with Dai 'Block' & Glyn Price not far behind and Mark Hatton, Robin Moses and Mike Jones, Kevin Tweedy all in Peugeots following. The rally ran on great roads but the timing was too slack for a proper result to be scored.

    Welsh Rally 2005
    04/05/2005 20:20

Last weekend saw Eian Pritchard & Martin Leonard take a sensational win on the Matador Welsh Rally. After trailing Peter Lloyd with anti lag problems on their ex John Ingram Subaru Impreza WRC they snatched the lead on the final afternoon initially by just .4 of a second and gradually stretched it to 8.4 secs by the end of the event.

Supporting BMC were Scottish visitors John Bogie & Davie Paterson who drove their Metro 6R4 very tidily to finish third overall.

Brian Dennis dragged faithful Mini ABX out from the shadows and was rewarded with a fine class win.

    Dennis Motorsport Gremlin Rally 2005
    28/03/2005 08:35

The 2005 Gremlin Rally had a new winner this year in the shape of current Welsh Champions John Davies & Neil Bevan who pedalled their Vauxhall Astra to a good win over debutant Steve Head with the now very experienced Graham Raeburn in the passenger seat of the Nova. Third fell to Merfyn Hughes' Subaru with young but very able Graham Dance and fourth to first BMC crew Martin Leonard with Kevin Chaffey back in harness for the first time in twelve months.

The route consisted of two regularities, two fuel halts, two visits to Epynt and the surrounding forests plus a loop around Abergwesyn just for good measure.

Other local crews were headed by Dai 'Block' Jones and Glyn Price who took a fine 10th overall and first semi expert, Mark Hatton and Robin Moses who were a magnificent second in the same class in their Peugeot 205 GTi and Martin Higgins and Peter Chappelle who won the novice class in their Ford Fiesta. Of the remaining crews, Wayne Arrowsmith and Chris Shapland's Fiesta was worthy of the challenge but a pile of penalties kept them down the order at the finish. Mike Jones and Kevin Tweedy retired after a navigational nightmare and Phil Jones and John Williams suffered from a host of mechanical problems on their BMW 325.

    Gremlin Rally Postponed
    17/02/2005 18:47

Due to increased military activity on the Epynt Ranges, the Old Forge Garage Gremlin Rally has been postponed until the 26th/27th of March 2005.

Brecon Motor Club had no choice in this decision and are just pleased to be able to be offered an alternative weekend for Denis Cardells epic.

Competitors will be contacted shortly with options.

Brian Dennis On Form At Builth!
    14/02/2005 21:38

Brian Dennis, BMC's evergreen senior rally driver stunned many of his rivals at Builth Wells Showground at the weekend by setting top ten times in his faithful eight port Mini. After a dazzling display Brian blotted his copy book on the last stage after getting distracted when catching a slower car and going off losing enough time to drop him to eleventh overall. Plans are now centred on getting his Citroen C2 in action later in the year.

At the back of the field BMC members were having a personal battle and on this occasion Alwyn Arrowsmith's Escort had the better of James Chappelle's Peugeot 205 Rallye, much to James' disgust! Alwyn had invested in better tyres for this attempt and it obviously made all the difference.

    Williams' Second At Pembrey
    07/02/2005 18:22

Jonathon & Heulwen Williams were worried before going to Pembrey at the weekend, they were seeded at number one and had Peter Lloyd in his WRC Impreza breathing down their neck. Despite conditions being bone dry Jonathon put up an admirable performance to finish in second place. Predictions by detractors that he would be caught by Lloyd were unfounded and the husband and wife duo even held off the superior Impreza of Jimmy Dark. Next event is yet to be decided but a new coat is possibly on the cards before!

    Carpet Bagger 2005
    24/01/2005 18:08

Martin Leonard and Abergavenny MC member Phil Jones made the journey to Charmouth at the weekend to finish some unfinished business on the Bournemouth MC Carpet Bagger Rally. The night didn't go totally to plan with a missed code board and a puncture costing them 17 minutes in total. Apart from that the evening went to plan and an eighth overall finish was good enough until next year!

The event was very well run and the roads as usual were a challenge with the added bonus of snow, ice and fog o the night.
