There were mixed fortunes for BMC crews on this years Severn Valley Stages. Eight stages in Cefn Llwydlo, Crychan, Halfway and Gwebedog were a real challenge for everyone. In the National A historic event Jason Pritchard got off to a sluggish start but sped up in the afternoon and capitalised on the misfortune of others to grab a great 2nd overall in his Group 4 Ford Escort. The Class B3 battle didn't disappoint in the early stages with Bob and Dale Gibbons gaining the advantage on stage 1 in the Mk2 Cortina but Malcolm Rich and Jon Hawkins struck back on stages 2 & 3 in the Anglia to take a decent advantage. The battle fizzled after that when the engine in the Gibbons Cortina gave up the ghost. Rich then had the category as well as the class in his sights and turned up the wick for the final stages overhauling the Lotus Cortina of Paul Mankin in the diminutive Anglia. In the Nat B modern rally Sara Williams had a chirpy start but retired her Subaru at first service with unknown problems while Yan Griffiths was out again with Sean Bannister in the Citroen C2 and took a class win.
